What is Business-to-Agent (B2A)?

Updated July 2026
Definition

Business-to-agent, or B2A, is the emerging layer of business where your customer is not a person but an AI agent acting for them. It is a third channel alongside B2B and B2C, and it changes what your brand needs to publish and expose.

What B2A means

We have had B2C and B2B for decades. B2A is the new one. Your buyer is an AI agent that researches, compares, and increasingly purchases on a human's behalf. The agent does not respond to a clever tagline or a hero image. It reads structured data, checks your feed, weighs your reviews, and picks. Serving that buyer well is a different discipline than serving a person, and it is arriving faster than most teams expect.

Why it is its own thing

You might think B2A is just B2C with a robot in the middle. It is not. Agents have different needs: machine-readable everything, verifiable facts, real-time inventory and pricing, and reachability without JavaScript gymnastics. A brand that is great at persuading humans can be invisible to agents. So B2A deserves its own thinking, its own checklist, and before long its own owner on the marketing team.

How to get ready for B2A

Start with the basics an agent depends on: clean structured data, a complete and current product feed, credible third-party signals like reviews, and pages an agent can actually read. Then think about being transactable, not just findable, as agentic checkout spreads. You do not need to boil the ocean. You need to make sure that when an agent shows up shopping for your category, your brand is legible, trustworthy, and pickable.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is B2A a real category or just a buzzword?

It is early, but the shift is real: agents are already doing product discovery and comparison, and starting to buy. Whether the label sticks or not, the work of serving agent buyers is becoming its own thing.

  • How is B2A different from B2C?

The buyer is software, not a person. Agents need machine-readable data, verifiable facts, and reachable pages, not persuasion and imagery. A brand strong with humans can still be invisible to agents.

  • What is the first B2A move to make?

Make your core facts and product data clean, structured, and current, and make sure AI agents can actually reach your pages. That legibility is the foundation everything else builds on.
